When you think of fences, you probably think of your basic enclosing property fences. These are normally either wire fences, or privacy fences, made from red cedar. But fences aren’t just enclosure features, they can be significant contributions to your home’s value. By installing them and taking care of them, you can create a custom backyard with a high-ticket value, or you can keep your family and the things you care most about, safe.
Around the Garden
Gardening is a well-known hobby all around the world. In many cases, it is how people sustain themselves when money becomes short or when things become hard. In suburbs, it is looked at like a hobby, because many people can afford for it to be one. Now, if you know anything about gardening beyond the status of their being plants and vegetables, you know that gardening is an obsession for gardeners. It’s like an all-encompassing passion for them, much like how people become infatuated with their house plants. And what do we do for our hobbies? We spend time on them, but we spend arguably more money on them. Putting a fence around your garden may not be an immediate obvious answer to most people—but that extra layer of deterrent can do wonders for the long-term health of your investment. This is especially true if you live in an area with wild animals abound.
Around the Pool
What’s the first rule of the pool in your house? If you have young children, it’s probably to stay away from the water unless being with an adult or an older sibling. In this way, a lot of accidents can be prevented just by keeping them away from it to begin with. But what happens when the kids slip away and approach the pool by themselves? Most pools do not offer any sort of protection, let alone protection enough to stop a tragedy. Those pools that do have some sort of deterrent are usually just a cover, meant for a few pounds at most—only enough to stop an infant from falling in. The only way to really protect your family from water issues is by either not having a pool installed to begin with, or by installing a fence around it with a lock.
Around the Kids’ Play Area
Kids respond well when they are given things that are holistically theirs. At least, most kids tend to respond well to it. If you install a fence in your backyard that gives them a place of their own to play in and explore in, you are realistically saving yourself some other wise inevitable costs, while also adding an amenity to your home. Kid play areas are a great way to contain the chaos of children to one area of the yard, while also giving them the impression that they have more responsibility than they do. Add a toy house and a toy grill to the ‘enclosure’ and your little bundles of joy will spend hours outside and being creative—while staying away from the dangers of tool sheds, construction, pools, and other hazards.
Around the Dog’s Area
Dogs love routine and jobs—they always have. And if you have multiple dogs, you know that there is a distinct connection between those dogs and you needing to do more work regarding them. Whether that is cleaning up after they’ve been digging or cleaning up their poops—maybe even washing things that have been peed on consistently. Installing a fence around a dog-only area, and training them to recognize that area as theirs, will go a long way in fixing troublesome behavior and cutting down on the amount of work you need to do to keep your home clean. Further, this area can be used as an alternative to an outside dog kennel. And when done right, the dogs will prefer it even over grass.
Around the Deck
If you live in a home on a hill, or if you have an elevated deck, it’s a wise choice to install a fence around any sort of elevation change. Elevation changes that normally require stairs, are big enough to warrant a need for fencing, since children, elder people, disabled people, or elder animals, can seriously hurt themselves by not noticing the elevation change. Fencing provides that needed protection that will keep everyone safe and will enhance your home’s value dramatically. Make sure to pick a fence that either matches or compliments your deck though—as design flow is a necessity for style.
