The board and post fence style is another type of split rail fence and is one of the most cost effective ways to fence your yard. Construction of the board and post fence consists of 4″x4″ up to 6″x6″ posts with 2″x4″ up to 2″ x 8″ rails. Designs can vary from 2 or 3 rails in heights from 3′ up to 6′ and a little flare can be added by beveling the post tops. Often we use the 2″x4″ welded wire to keep the pets in since it is an open design. Paint or stain the fence to give it your personal touch and to add years of life to the cedar.
Pictured here is a board and post split rail fence. We used 4″x4″ posts with 3, 2″x6″ rails. Welded wire was installed using heavy duty galvanized staples to keep the homeowners small dogs in. The fence was finished in a white exterior paint.
We built the gates for this property to match the fence with the 3 rail design. Another option would have been the picket style gate.
